Monday Mornings

Let's talk about Monday mornings, or any morning and how to, 'live them by design.'

Okay so who likes Monday mornings? Although I'm not standing in front of you right now I'm guessing your hand didn't go up. When I first started this whole "live by design" mentality I came to the realization that life is too short. I realize that statement is nothing mind blowing or anything you haven't heard before but I set out to actually do something about it.

My Biggest Relationship Mistake

You may not know this about me but I do a lot of reflecting. I am often reflecting on past mistakes, things I've said, things I've done wondering why I did what I did.

One in particular stands out to me as one of my biggest I've ever made and one I'll never repeat. The funny thing (if you can even call it that) is that it wasn't until years later that I had even realized I had made a mistake.

There's no pain like it, relationship pain. I don't often share about my relationships on my blog because there hasn't much to share. I'm single, not exactly news worthy. I'm picky, which means I'm single for long spouts of time. I'm shy, which means although I'm outgoing on the outside it takes a miracle for me to make the first move. Not exactly a great recipe for relationship success but it's the truth and it's where I'm currently at.

A scary statistic

I watched a documentary called "The Perfect Human Diet," and in this documentary it gave me a seriously scary statistic that I felt compelled to share and help visualize (see above image).  After doing some quick research on my own to verify these numbers I found out this.  Approximately 3,000 people died during the events of Sept. 11th and approximately 300,000 people die every year from obesity related deaths. Oh and I'm told that the obesity number is going up each year... yikes!

After doing some quick math, that is like Sept. 11th happening every 3.65 days!  Can you even imagine how horrific that would be?!?  The sad thing is that it is happening.  It's just not as visual as the events of Sept. 11th were.

Please note, the last thing I want to do is turn this into a blog about Sept. 11th.  I suppose I could have used a different event like WWI or WWII.         

The brave people in those buildings and planes didn't have a choice about their fate that day but we do. We can prevent the obesity crisis.  If you could have prevented an event like Sept. 11th you would have wouldn't you?  So why not help prevent a crisis that is killing 100 times more people?


Conclusion
Unfortunately we can't change what other people do, but we can change ourselves.  We can correct this problem all while at the same time making our lives happier and healthier.  I'm not saying we should stop having security in airports but looking solely at the statistics here it's not our greatest threat.  One of our greatest threats is staring right at us everyday.

Quitting A Bad Thing?

"Once you learn to quit, it becomes a habit." - Vince Lombardi

I was reading this quote the other day and loved it, but I think for a different reason then Mr. Lombardi was saying.  In my opinion what he's trying to say is don't make a habit of quitting.  Keep trying, keep fighting, etc.  Ok so you may be asking yourself how did I read it differently.


I've recently been reading and writing/ blogging a lot more and most of what I read is on self development.  Right now I'm really focusing on staying on track and getting rid of the things in my life that are either weighing me down or wasting my time.  Something that was really wasting my time was this game called 'Candy Crush,' you may have heard of it.  Man this game is addicting, I even found myself paying a few bucks for extra lives!

I finally decided it was time to start quitting bad habits!  I deleted all the games off of my iPhone.  It was hard because I'm sure I lost all the work I had put into my scores but really who cares.  In a day/ month/ or year from now am I really going to care if I was on level 1 or 100.  Doubt it.  This action led me to also start reading more and watching less TV.  Which will hopefully continually inspire me to do something else.

I guess the point of this post is to say I agree with Vince Lombardi.  Quitting isn't bad, as long as what you're quitting is bad, in my case a bad habit!
