About Me
My name is Jimmie and I want to THANK YOU for visiting my slice of the internet here. The past few years have been really exciting for me and my team. I've been very blessed to have my story featured on Beachbody's website, grow a team of Beachbody coaches to over 1,000 and counting, join the Beachbody Talent Team and be featured in several P90X LIVE videos (R13, R14 & R16), been a guest author in the Healthy Habit Revolution by best selling author Derek Doepker, become close friends with my idol and mentor Tony Horton, be trained by olympic medalists in Track & Field, course tested for the popular show American Ninja Warrior, be featured on stage at Beachbody Summit in front of thousands and much more coming soon I can't talk about just yet ;)
All that is pretty recent though. I'll start my story around 2009 since that's when things really got interesting for me.
Just a year prior I had landed my dream job in sunny Santa Monica California. I was dating an amazing woman who I planned on marrying and I was living in an amazing dream-like apartment in Marina Del Rey. In my mind the universe, stars, planets and aliens had aligned perfectly. Over the next year the economy would crash dismanteling my rising career at the top architectural firm in the world sending me straight to the unemployment office; my girlfriend would fall out of love with me and the icing on the cake would be that I couldn't afford my dream apartment anymore.
The next year I call the Great Depression of my life although at the time I thought of myself as pretty lucky. Why lucky? I was able to party 24/7 and and not really worry about anything. Essentially I became an alcoholic billiards playing bar regular who could only find happiness from the instant gratification of booze, fast food, TV dinners and sleep. A year of this slowly diminished my health, friendships, life goals, energy and my will to achieve a better life.
Then I got sick one day and it was a wakeup call. You see one of my stupid human tricks is that I can solve the Rubik's cube, the other is that I don't ever get sick; so this really got me worried. Around this same time a buddy of mine challenged me to start a fitness program so I decided maybe it was time for change. My goal at the time was to get huge and get ripped. Little did I know that the real success would be something else entirely. That success would be the feeling of EMPOWERMENT. The feeling that I was in control of my life.
Almost immediately I decided to do a full 180 in my life. I moved away from the temptations that were holding me back, changed my scenery, found a new job, moved into a new apartment and focused solely on ME.
It took about a year for me to get back to where I was before my Great Depression but this time something had changed - I WAS STUCK AGAIN. More correctly I was COMFORTABLE. Comfortable going to a job that wasn't challenging me at any meaningful way or bettering my life. I wasn't living up to my potential - whatever that was I just knew I wasn't doing it.
So I started hanging out around others on a similar quest towards a more fulfilling life, starting saying NO to the bad and started saying YES to the unfamiliar, the scary and the challenging. Soon after I attended a conference where keynote speaker Seth Godin said something that changed my life. He asked the audience to write down our dreams, our goals and what would make us happy. After we were done writing he asked my life changing question, "On YOUR current path, with what you're doing right now, will you ever reach those dreams, goals and things that will make you happy?" It was then I realized that my actions weren't in alignment with my dreams.
A few months later I quit my career of 10+ years and took a chance on achieving my dreams. My journey continues to this day and will never end. I've learned some amazing things on the way, met some incredible people and have had some unforgettable memories. My life has truly changed and now I help others change theirs as best as I can. Which brings you to this page.
About This Page
If you've read my story from above you'll know that my purpose is to help EMPOWER people. The path towards empowerment is generally filled with fear, uneasiness, temptation to fall back into old habits, tears and eventually freedom, happiness and purpose. The timeline is unique for everyone, but I've found is that most people stop dreaming, they stop searching and they stop fighting for what will truly create fulfillment in their life. They're beat down, insecure and tired which leads to a life of "living to pay bills" and mediocrity. I know, I was there too.

Once I was finally able to come to terms with this depressing yet true fact in my own life, I decided to risk everything and change it. I set out to figure out my own purpose. What did I really want? What could I actually achieve if I was able to concur fear and go for it? What if I stopped playing the game not to lose and instead I decided to play to win? What would happen?
I find it fascinating how much information is at our finger tips now-a-days and yet we can't seem to make a decision. Why is it with all this information, knowledge and wisdom around us so many people are becoming more unhealthy, more overweight, less committed to relationships and more apathetic towards their future? What separates the successful (as it pertains to fulfillment not money) from the unsuccessful?
Of course this is a complex topic with an infinite amount of variables unique to each individual but I want to try and help solve this equation; not only for myself but for other as well. I believe that if I can help enlighten others then that will eventually lead them to ultimate fulfillment. So what do I mean when I say enlightenment?
Enlightenment: The ability to take action using the knowledge around us in order to produce an intended result.
You see information is not enough to enlighten us. We must know how to use that knowledge and then be willing to take action in order to become enlightened. In my equation 'practice does not make you perfect.' Perfect practice makes you perfect. We must learn how to build up strong habits that we can combine with knowledge used as fuel to drive us to success.
Our new equation must be...
Action + Knowledge = Enlightenment
So where am I going with all this? Well, that's the theme of my blog, Live by Design. Since you already have, or at least have access to the knowledge (the internet among other things) I want to help you learn how to create the habits.
Since I believe the foundation of fulfillment requires health (nutrition + exercise), relationship security, and self awareness, those are the topics I am passionate about and love to discuss here. That's what Live By Design really means; creating enlightenment (habits + knowledge) in your own life, which leads you to your true fulfillment.
I hope you'll join me on this crazy adventure. To find out more about my personal journey towards enlightenment and then fulfillment check out my story here (coming soon).

P.S. Did I mention I'm also a complete nerd?
