My First Oil Painting: Roger & Jessica Rabbit

Monday, September 21, 2015

Just wanted to share with you all a new hobby/ bucket list item I started/ completed - oil painting.

I'm a fan of Roger Rabbit and I guess in many ways I relate to him. The goofy funny guy (how I see myself) trying to get the hot girl. I guess in the movie they're already married but whatever. Anyways I found this image who I believe is by MistyTang (WEBSITE) and used it as my inspiration.
This project was pretty far outside of my skill/ comfort level but I decided to just go for it anyways. Then I researched textures, colors, etc to try to make it my own. I loved these realistic illustrations of Jessica I found online so I decided to use the layout from MistyTang's piece combined with more realistic colors and textures. Source images were easier to find for Jessica but since Roger was a cartoon making him look a little more on the realistic side was tough. Not to mention playing around just seeing what I was even capable of creating as a beginner oil painter.

Anyways here it is, my final result and yes, my easel was a Amazon box. I'm very happy with how it turned out. I think with nearly any art piece you want to do better but at some point you have to stop and move on. I learned that I like oil paints more then acrylic and definitely more then watercolor.
